MORE FAN INFO

We have reserved this section of the site to provide information on various aspects of ERB fandom. If you have any additional suggestions for information to be included in this section, please drop us a line.

ERB Collection

The University of Louisville Library owns the largest institutional archive of the works of Edgar Rice Burroughs. The collection contains over 67,000 items ranging in scope from the author's earliest school books to promotional materials from the 1990s. The Tarzan myth has proved hardy and long-lived.

The exhibition is on display in the galleries of the Photographic Archives and Rare Books departments in the Ekstrom Library on the Belknap Campus of the University of Louisville. Hours are 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM Monday through Friday with hours extended until 8:00 PM on Thursdays. The galleries are closed on Saturdays and Sundays, and will be closed December 23 through January 1. For additional information call 502/852-6752. For Belknap Campus parking information and directions, call the Visitor Information Center at 502/852-6565. The curator (emeritus) of this collection is George T. McWhorter

The National Capital Panthans

The National Capital Panthans, the idea of which was conceived at the 1995 Dum-Dum in Rutland, VT and actually founded in September 1996, are the officially recognized Mid-Atlantic (Washington D.C., Baltimore, Annapolis and Northern Virginia) area Chapter of the Burroughs Bibliophiles. While meetings are generally held on the first Sunday of the month and are hosted by various members in their homes, we have been known to journey to other events such as RavenCon, Capclave and BaltiCon to represent our ERB interests.

There are approximately 50 members from 15 states around the United States and one each from England and Canada. The Panthans hosted the 1998 (Baltimore, MD), 2006 (Rockville, MD joint banquet with ECOF), 2011 (Pocatello, ID) and the BB Board has approved our planning the 2013 Burroughs Bibliophiles Dum-Dum. And we have hosted the 1999 (Gaithersburg, MD), 2003 (Rockville), 2006 (Rockville ) and 2010 (Shenandoah Caverns, VA) ECOF Gatherings. Generally so many members go to ERB fan conventions hosted by others that the Panthans can be counted on to assist with registration. The Panthans published a book in 2010, entitled “ERB - The Second Century,” which included fan-produced fiction, poetry, scholarly deductions and many great illustrations! It is available from the Panthans as well as from Amazon.com. There is a monthly Journal produced for those who attend our meetings or make a contribution to that specific Journal’s contents.

To become a member and receive a monthly newsletter informing you about Panthans activities send your annual membership fee of $15.00 to:

John Tyner, Treasurer

Rockville, Maryland 20851-2410

The Muckers

The Muckers organized as a chapter of the Burroughs Bibliophiles on Aug. 5, 2006, during an annual convention for fans of Edgar Rice Burroughs called the ERB Chain of Friendship. All fans of Burroughs in the Windy City area are invited to join this new chapter of the Bibliophiles. It's mainly a means to get together now and then to talk about our favorite author. But we also hope to undertake projects ranging from research of Burroughs' life while he lived in Chicago and Oak Park, to work on the Dateline Jasoom podcast hosted by Jeff "Elmo" Long, The Mucker Magazine, plus anything else we can think of to promote the works of ERB. For information on upcoming meetings, check out muckers.panthanpress.com or contact Joan Bledig at: jthev@aol.com

IN THE WORDS OF EDGAR RICE BURROUGHS...
" I find that a considerable part of my work in writing fiction has nothing whatsoever to do with fiction. It is based upon the belief that highly imaginative fiction, such as I write, demands the retention of a youthful and elastic mind, to achieve which one of my principal aims in life is to keep my body physically fit and my mind responsive to a diversity of simple stimuli. "
